State of the Heart Hospice held their 2nd annual Heart and Sole 5k this past Saturday. It was a beautiful, very brisk morning for a run! This year’s 5k was held at the great Eldora Speedway, which the race started and finished on the race track. After the race, there were plenty of food, drinks, prizes and awards to be distributed. Congratulations to Julie Mattheis who finished first over all with a time of 20:28.5!
All proceeds benefited the State of the Heart Hospice. State of the Heart Hospice has a unique team approach to caring for both patient and family. The team consists of physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, bereavement specialists, chaplains, music therapists, and volunteers. The team acts as the support network and provides physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual care to both patient and family. An important part of the care is bereavement support.
State of the Heart Hospice relies on financial support from the community. No patient is ever denied care based on an inability to pay. Hospice is based on the philosophy that no patient need die alone, in pain, feeling a burden to family and friends.
Preferred Insurance had a great time greeting and meeting the brave runners/walkers. We even had a few venturous teammates of our own do the race as well! We were also giving away a free Fitbit Charge HR the day of the race, the lucky winner was Erica Burns! (Pictured above)
