Whether you’re getting married in Ohio or Hawaii the first 3 things you need to do are going to be the same and crucial! Following these steps first will help your wedding plans be nothing but bliss!
- Set the budget! The knot.com has a great starting point if you are in total confusion on what is best fitting for your particular situation. Whether you’re getting married in Ohio or having a destination wedding your wedding budget should roughly follow this formula: 48 to 50 percent of total budget to reception; 8 to 10 percent for flowers; 8 to 10 percent for attire; 8 to 10 percent for entertainment/music; 10 to 12 percent for photo/video; 3 to 4 percent for invites; 2 to 3 percent for gifts; and 7 percent for miscellaneous items like a wedding coordinator. It’s essential to allocate an extra 5 to 10 percent of your money for surprise expenses like printing extra invites because of mistakes, additional tailoring needs, umbrellas for a rainy day, and ribbons for the wedding programs.
2. Prioritize your guest list. Pare down your guest list with the “tiers of priority” trick. Place immediate family, the bridal party, and best friends on the top of the list; follow with aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends you couldn’t imagine not being there. Under that, list your parents’ friends, neighbors, coworkers, and so on. If you need to make some cuts, start from the bottom until you reach your ideal number.
3. Get organized! The only tool you’ll really need to get through this adventure is a Google Doc! You are not just looking for any Google Doc to plan your wedding, you are looking for the My Preferred Life Wedding Planner. Not familiar with Google Docs, no worries! This planner can also be downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet. This total planner is designed to help you stay organized right through the honeymoon. At the bottom there is a tab or sheet for each major part of the planning process. Obviously you can download the excel version but we really love the idea of setting up a google sheet for you to share with your fiance’ (or anyone else you choose). It’s a great way to keep everyone informed, and that is a great way to keep the smiles rolling!
