Our first Flamingo Flocking of the community garage sales is in the books! St. Henry Community Garage Sales was first up for our ambitious flamingos. This particular fundraiser was to benefit the St. Henry Track and Field Team.
Members of the track team successfully placed 56 flocks of flamingos at individual garage sales. Preferred Insurance Center and Auto-Owners Insurance donated $20 for every flock of flamingos that was placed during the sales. Last week, a few members of Preferred Insurance Center had the pleasure of delivering a check of $1,120 to the St. Henry Track and Field Team.
A Special Thank You:
We would like to send a thank you out to the St. Henry Track and Field Team for participating with the Flamingo Flocking fundraiser again this year. It’s always a pleasure to work with you!
A special shout out to Kristy Schulze! Kristy works very hard behind the scenes during the St. Henry Garage Sales. She has been our contact for the St. Henry garage sales for the past several years. Thanks for all your effort and time to making this fundraiser to be as successful as it is!
Donating $10 to local charity for every policy we quote!
I also need to thank all the people who donated to BBBS on our behalf. We raised over $6,900 which is amazing and none of it could have been done without the fantastic people and businesses in our area. A special thank you needs to go out to a few people.First, I want to thank my nephew Craig Muhlenkamp who is the professional dancer and his wife Michelle. He is the one who convinced my wife Susie to dance with him and he is the one who did the choreography and taught Susie to dance. He did a fantastic job and he and Michelle are the most wonderful people. We love them dearly.
Al Hall, a friend of my partner Roger Rindler, graciously gave up his OSU vs Michigan football tickets so we could raffle them off!
My team at Preferred Insurance who asked for donations, organized events, publicized things and donated personally. I am so blessed to be surrounded by them.
Last, but of course not least, I am incredibly proud of my wife. She took a chance, went way out of her comfort zone, worked her butt off, and did a great job. She enjoyed it immensely but that is because she put so much into it. Becky Kunk, a judge at the event, and Susie’s sister, put it so well when she said, “For so long you have worked in the background for you family and children. I am so happy to see you shine in a spotlight of you own tonight. So true!
As you most likely know by now, Preferred Insurance Center is sponsoring Craig Muhlenkamp & Susie Muhlenkamp in the Dancing With the Big Stars competition. This is a major fundraiser benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer/Auglaize County.
The 3nd Annual Dancing with the BIG Stars will be held this year with an exciting competition between dancers. On November 12, a group of well-known community members will test new skills with experienced dance partners as they dance for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer, Auglaize, & Van Wert Counties at this year’s Dancing with the BIG Stars. This fundraiser is modeled after the long-running television series, Dancing with the Stars.

Nine citizens from the Mercer, Auglaize, & Van Wert County area have been paired with local dancers from various studios throughout the area.
In efforts to help make this fundraiser a success for Big Brothers Big Sisters, we were giving away 2 OSU v. Michigan tickets for donating. For every $10 donated a person would receive 1 entry.
Yesterday we gave the phone call to Dean & Lynne Huelsman of Coldwater, Ohio, letting them know they were the lucky winners of the 2 OSU v. Michigan tickets! They were surprised and excited! Dean made the comment that going to a OSU v Michigan football game was always on his bucket list!
We want to give a HUGE thank you to all who have donated! Your generosity is greatly appreciated! Preferred Insurance has several team members that serve as Lunch Buddies for Big Brothers and Big Sisters and know how big of a difference the program is making in our community!
Our office had the opportunity to serve at the C.A.L.L. Cafe. The C.A.L.L. Cafe is a free meal provided to the less fortunate. Organizations, churches and businesses volunteer and take care of all expense and preparation of a meal for these individuals.
We served 85 clients spaghetti, green beans, peaches, dinner rolls and a variety of yummy desserts! Andy Kremer and his daughter brought some games for the kids to play prior to eating – along with a lot of candy! Roger Rindler started the evening off with a short story and prayer. After serving the individuals we were able to sit and enjoy conversation with the clients. It was a very humbling experience for all who served! We cannot wait to participate next year!
The Preferred Insurance Flamingos had quite the adventure this summer already! They were ecstatic to help three great local organizations/groups raise a total of $3,000!! The flamingos attended the St. Henry, Coldwater and Fort Recovery garage sale. For every flock of flamingos that were placed at a garage sale, Preferred Insurance Center along with a company sponsor would donate $20 total to the designated organization/group. The St. Henry Track Team, the Coldwater Academic Promoters and the Fort Recovery Traveling Tribe were all able to receive $1,000 each!
The flamingos sure had a fiesta at the Fort Recovery garage sales! They appreciated the Fort Recovery Traveling Tribe’s hospitality and fun spirit. The Fort Recovery Traveling Tribe is planning a trip to Spain and Italy next summer. Preferred Insurance Center and Auto-Owners Insurance were able to donate a total of $1,000 to the Traveling Tribe and their trip.
Earlier today Amanda Kremer, Abby Timmerman and a few pink ladies delivered their final garage sale fundraiser check to a few members of the Fort Recovery Traveling Tribe. Everyone here at the Preferred Insurance office would like to wish the Traveling Tribe safe travels on their trip next summer! Don’t have too much fun 😉
A special Thank You:
To all the organizers of the town’s garage sales for their help and corporation! The flamingos look forward to the 2017 garage sales!
The Flocks of Pink Flamingos were marking 50 out of the 65 sales in town. Preferred Insurance and Donegal Insurance teamed up to donate $20 for each flock that was placed around town by the St. Henry Track & Field Team. Representatives from Preferred Insurance (Abby Timmerman and Amanda Kremer) presented the team with $1,000.00 check and $135.00 was also received in donations from the community.
They are very appreciative for the opportunity of this fundraiser and the support from the community. Thank you for all who hosted a flock of flamingos this year at the St. Henry Garage Sales!
Next Year, the St. Henry Community sales will be April 6th, 7th & 8th. Electronic copy of ad will be out March 27th, and a limited number of hard copies will be in area businesses on March 30th.
CALL Ministries started a new ministry on September 1st of 2014 called the “Work 4” Program. This program allows Clients to review their inventory of large household items, such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, couches, love seats, etc. and commit to “Work 4” the item by completing the number of volunteer hours we place on the item. Once the Client has completed the number of hours agreed to, they then receive the item free of charge. This is the only program they have where the client has to do something to receive resources. CALL places the clients at various locations such as here at the Pantry, Mercer County Fairgrounds, etc. Since inception, Clients have “Worked 4”, fifty-three items volunteering over 353 hours completing numerous projects during this time.
This program allows the Clients to get needed items for their house and gives them self-esteem knowing they did something to receive the items instead of having it given to them. This Program also helps give the Clients skills to get jobs and they can use this Program on their resumes when applying for jobs.
For the entire month of August, Preferred Insurance will be donating $10 to CALL Food Pantry for EVERY quote! Help make a difference and request your quote today!

The Coldwater Public Library’s summer reading program “Every Hero has a Story” involved children from preschool to 5th grade. 245 registered for the program.
Each child set his or her own goal as to how many books they would read over the seven week period. Over 5000 books were read during that time span. There were weekly contests, special programs, and guests that included the street sweeper, an “Apollo astronaut”, and a real life K-9 officer. The grand prize was 4 tickets to Kings Island which was won by Paige Guggenbiller.
