I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist

Title: Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win
Author:  Jocko Willink and Leaf Babin
1-5 Star Rating: 5 Stars
Review by: Dan Muhlenkamp

Why did you read it?
I admire Navy Seals and the book is very highly rated as a leadership book.

What did you get out of it?
Some of the best general principles to lead people and organizations to perform at a very high level.

List what someone can expect to learn:
The authors take a situation that occurred in a battle situation in Iraq and use it to make a point about leadership or strategy. They then give you a real life situation in the business world where the same principles applied. They repeat this process for each of their major points.  Very practical and useful.

Summarize, who would you recommend the book/video/course to? What situations?
The book is great for anyone who is ready to adapt strategies and processes to perform better themselves or to lead other people or entire organizations to perform better.

Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t

Title: Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t
Author: Simon Sinek
1-5 Star Rating: 5 Stars
Review by: Dan Muhlenkamp

Why did you read it?
I read anything I can written by Simon Sinek

What did you get out of it?
I consider this the premier book that defines what a leader is supposed to be.

List what someone can expect to learn:

  • Simon Sinek starts the book out with this quote, and then goes on to explain why, and how, we make this a reality.“Leaders are the ones who run headfirst into the unknown. They rush toward the danger. They put their own interests aside to protect us or to pull us into the future. Leaders would sooner sacrifice what is theirs to save what is ours. And they would never sacrifice what is ours to save what is theirs. This is what it means to be a leader. It means they choose to go first into danger, headfirst toward the unknown. And when we feel sure they will keep us safe, we will march behind them and work tirelessly to see their visions come to life and proudly call ourselves their followers.”

Summarize, who would you recommend the book/video/course to? What situations?
This book is for everyone. We all lead someone and when we lead we need to be excellent at it. It is best for us, and best for those we lead.

This book is best for people with some basic computer skills. Most of the tools and ideas are designed for smartphone or computer usage.

Title: I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist
Author: Norman Geisler and Frank Turek
1-5 Star Rating: 5 Stars
Review by: Dan Muhlenkamp

Why did you read it?
I wanted evidence and reason and this looked very logical.

What did you get out of it?
The best expose of logic and evidence for the existence of God and the correctness of Christianity I’ve ever seen

List what someone can expect to learn:

  • What “truth” is and isn’t.
  • The evidence and logic for the existence of God
  • If God exist, which God?
  • Is the Bible reliably passed on to us? Is it the Word of God
  • Is atheism logical

Summarize, who would you recommend the book/video/course to? What situations?
If you have an open mind and you believe things should be logical, this book is for you. It does require you to be willing to follow the truth wherever it leads, or you will find it very upsetting. Computer programmers and engineers will love the book.

You’ve done it — you’ve finally landed a job that offers amazing benefits such as free life insurance. While employer-offered life insurance (also called group life insurance) is worthwhile, it shouldn’t be your only source of insurance.

Many employers will offer a free level of life insurance for employees. Depending on your place of work, this can cover anywhere from $25,000 to your base pay. Since this is a free option, all employees should sign up for the benefit. It’s free money if something were to happen to you. However, don’t let that be your only coverage.

Book Review : Off the Clock | Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done By Laura Vanderkam

Book Review : Off the Clock | Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done By Laura Vanderkam

Title: Off the Clock: Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done
Author: Laura Vanderkam
1-5 Star Rating: 5 Stars
Review by: Dan Muhlenkamp

Why did you read it?
I was feeling like life and business were very hectic, but not really productive. I also wanted to stop thinking about work all the time, which is really working all the time, and truly get away from work without getting drastically less done.

What did you get out of it?
I was expecting a book about methods, tasks, scheduling, delegating etc. It was not at all like that. It was about thinking differently about time, goals and people. To be sure, it does have concrete techniques, but that is not the true “Gold” of the book. The book is more about making a better life from the time we have and I truly loved it.

List what someone can expect to learn:

  • Learn to “Tend Your Garden” – Take care of you life
  • Make Life Memorable – Time slows down when we are making memories. So how do we make those memories happen in a hectic world.
  • Linger – Making time stand still when it’s important.
  • Invest In Your Happiness – Investing is different that chasing happiness. It’s real
  • Let It Go – Don’t let messed up plans or events mess up your memories.
  • People Are A Good Use Of Time – This was the grand finale for me. We know it’s true, but how do we start to act that way.

Summarize, who would you recommend the book/video/course to? What situations?
Do you wish you had more time in the day (or week or month)? Well , you can’t get that. Every day has 1440 minutes and every week has 168 hours. If what your really want is to get more life out of your time , this is the book for you!
