Take Those Keys Out! Ohio Insurance Agency Advises
Ohio auto insurance laws don't require it, but if this court case sets a precedent, it will be more important than ever to take your keys out of your car, every time.
Imagine this: Your vehicle is stole. The thief is out for a joy ride, but in the end, he has a high speed accident and seriously injures another innocent driver. It's sad, but it isn't your fault and you don't owe the innocent driver anything because your car was stolen. But now there is a problem...
You left your keys in the car. In that past it didn't matter, but a recent court case in Nashville TN will probably change that. The case is ET AL. v. RUBYE J. JARRELL ET AL In this case the jury decided that because the owner of the vehicle left his keys in the vehicle, he was acting irresponsibly, and was therefore liable to the injured party.
Now I don't know about you, but this Ohio insurance agency doesn't think that is right at all. But then again, just because it isn't right, doesn't mean it isn't a problem. I'll admit I leave me keys in my car in Coldwater all the time. I can also tell you, I won't be doing that any more!
